Women Who Inspire

DVD - Women Who Inspire includes two programs about strong women who founded religious congregations which were groundbreaking in their attention to previously underserved populations. Both serve as courageous examples of commitment to social justice.

Program One: The Gift of Katharine Drexel (28 min.) is a dramatic film on the life of a dynamic American whose concern for the recognition and personal fulfillment of Native Americans and African Americans was far ahead of her time. St. Katharine Drexel (1858-1955) founded the order of Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament to serve the desperate need she saw in the South and on the Native American reservations of her day. The film, produced by Franciscan Communications, provides a moving insight into the evolution of a religious vocation. Jane Wyatt narrates. It is suitable for junior high to adult audiences.

Program Two: Work of God's Hands: A Video on Mother Teresa for Young People (14 min.), filmed in India, is an invitation to young people to be present with Blessed Mother Teresa (1910-1997), founder of the Missionaries of Charity, as she works among the children, the sick and the dying. Viewers will hear her voice and see her hands at work. When Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, she was asked how ordinary might promote world peace. Her answer? "Go home and love your family." This film, produced by Ikonographics, inspires viewers to act on that good counsel.
